Think about how much you do each day where your objective is simply “to get it over with.”
You are a parent feeding breakfast to your child and it’s getting late for school and you just want her to eat what is on the plate and make it in time for the school bus.
You are working late on a project, and you want to finish it so you can go out for a beer.
You are watching a thriller on Netflix and it’s a good one but you want to know whodunit so you can go to bed.
You are buying a gift for your spouse, and you want it over and done with so you can scratch it off your to-do list.
Your laundry hamper is overflowing so you do the laundry and can’t wait to finish it so you can do something you like better.
You can’t wait for your kids to be potty trained so you don’t have to wipe them anymore. And then you can’t wait for them to go to school so you have some time for yourself. And then you look forward to them going to college so you can focus on your needs.
I have written about this in an earlier blog.
Life passes you by while you are desperately trying to get things over with.
Try this instead. Whatever task you are involved with, immerse yourself in it. Do it with full attention and care. Do it with love.
This is not always easy to do. In fact, sometimes it is downright tough and seems impossible. You love your daughter but when she refuses to get dressed and screams when you try to feed her and you are getting late for work and an important meeting, all your good intentions fly out the window.
Understand that being impatient with your screaming child is not the best way to get her to cooperate. Getting angry with your boss for her unreasonable demands will not get the job done but it will ruin your day.
Think about what I have shared with you. Learn to savor life minute by minute rather than watch it flit by and then ask where the time went.
Peace!
